A more efficient way to dispose of your soft plastics

With your help, we’re diverting soft plastics from sitting in landfill forever, and turning them back into a useful resource.

We take the soft plastics we collect to local recyclers, while pushing for research and innovation in creating products from recycled materials.

Why do we collect soft plastics?

In Australia, soft plastics can’t go into our council recycling bins, so most soft plastics currently end up in landfill. Think of soft plastics as plastic you can scrunch up, fold or roll up easily, like bread or frozen food bags or bubble wrap.

Not only are we removing waste from your workplace and diverting it from landfill, but we can also help you understand what you need to do to avoid and minimise the use of this material in the first place.

How does soft plastics collection work?

We’ll provide you with bags for your soft plastic materials and collect them at a frequency that matches your volume. Once our drivers collect your bags, we compact them ready for recycling.

What happens to the soft plastics when they’re recycled?

At the local recycling facility, the plastics are heated and melted into a new, uniform membrane. The plastics can then be pelletised and used in road base, used in construction as water-proofing material and in other ways, avoiding the need to manufacture new plastics. While these still aren’t ideal end destinations, they’re infinitely better than landfill!

Why is there a fee?

Businesses pay for waste collection regardless of where it goes, so redirecting funds and resources to the local community isn’t a hard choice.

Reground is a social enterprise – when cafes, offices, councils and retailers decide to work with Reground, they’re investing in everyone’s future and supporting a movement that benefits everyone – especially our planet.

We collect Soft Plastics from these conscious companies

“We knew Reground to be deeply passionate, collaborative and solutions-focussed, doing great things on a small scale in Melbourne. We needed a soft plastics recycling solution, so Reground was the obvious choice, especially as they collect and reprocess the plastics locally.”
